Following the Lord Jesus is similar:
it’s a conscious choice to listen to him.
It means his voice shapes who you are
and what you think and what you do.
But that requires us to stop listening (and stop following)
the voices which are telling us to go in the opposite direction.

MAIN SPEAKER
We’ve privileged to have Gary Millar (principal of Queensland Theological College) to come to Y to unpack the Scriptures for us over the weekend. Gary has a wealth of preaching and teaching experience, and is the author of books such as Calling on the Name of the Lord, Changed into His Likeness, and Need to Know.
What is Y Conference?
Y Conference is a Christian Conference for young adults aged 18-30. Y Conference is part of QCCA (Queensland Christian Convention Association), and is also affiliated with TGCA (The Gospel Coalition Australia). We subscribe to the TGCA Foundation Documents.
Sing to God and hear him speak to you
Over the course of the conference, we all gather together six times to praise our great God in song, and to listen to him speak to us in his Word. Yes, it’s intense and challenging. But it’s also uplifting and encouraging, and you’ll leave refreshed in your faith and inspired to keep living for Christ.
Dig deeper in workshops
Workshops are held on Saturday and are led by fantastic speakers who speak into a particular topic and also facilitate group discussions around that topic, giving you and opportunity to bounce ideas off others and explore ideas in greater depth.

Workshops are a way for you to learn a bit differently at Y. Instead of just sitting and listening to content, our workshop facilitators provide you with some content, and then get you to discuss and thrash out those ideas in groups.

How do we as Christians process pain while declaring hope? In this workshop, Andy Robbins from Eastside Baptist Church will help you to explore the Biblical practice of lament which provides a framework for Christians to authentically express pain and suffering, while still proclaiming a deep trust in God and the hope of a brighter future.

Every Christian goes through tough times. What is the Biblical way to respond in times of difficulty, and where we do we find the strength to persevere in hard seasons? Becky Khan from Rosalie Baptist Church will help you think through these questions.

What does following Jesus mean for our emotions? What counter-cultural model has he given us for feeling our way through life; responding to people, events, and our heavenly Father? Richard Gibson (principal of Brisbane School of Theology) will be exploring the way Jesus is portrayed in the Gospels, and the implications the New Testament draws for followers of Jesus: how we are affected by and respond to the world around us.

The Habits of a Highly Effective Christian
According to Sean Covey (author of the famous book, 7 Habits of Highly Effective People), 'we become what we repeatedly do.' So what bad habits that make us more like the world should we cut out of our lives, and what good habits that make us more like Christ ought we to cultivate? Mark Baddeley (theology lecturer at Queensland Theological College) will help you to wrestle with these questions in this workshop.

Christian hospitality
Biblical hospitality is radically counter-cultural: it involves opening our homes and hearts and lives to people who we would not normally associate with in a way that demonstrates God's love to us in Christ. But how do we practically do that? And what small steps can we take to move us in the right direction? In this workshop, Sam McGeown (pastor of Village Church in Kelvin Grove) will help you to work though these important questions.

Who Am I Again? Finding A Solid Self in a Fragile World
In this workshop, Robyn Bain will help us think about what it means to know our identity is in Christ. How does knowing that give us purpose, joy and courage as we get up each morning? What does that mean when we fail, feel rejected or sense everything is out of control? How does that help us build loving relationships? And why do those around us so desperately need to find themselves in Christ too?

Hope in a Hopeless World
Bushfires, pandemics, political polarisation, social fragmentation, warnings of ecological collapse. The future has never looked so bleak. What hope is there? In this workshop, Andrew Dunstan from Malyon Theological College will lay some biblical, theological and practical foundations of a distinctively Christian hope which can sustain us to persevere in faithfully serving and proclaiming Christ even in the midst of it all.

Accepting One Another When We Disagree
Getting along together in the church can be tough at times. Particularly when our conscience differs on matters that are important to us. In this workshop, Darren Dakers from Liberti Church will help you think through principles from Romans 14-15 to help guide you towards accepting one another as Christ has accepted us.

Relax and build friendships
Y Conference isn’t just a place to learn – it’s an opportunity to build new friendships and deepen existing ones. We schedule heaps of free time into the program, we provide coffee, and we set up lounges and spaces for chilling and chatting so that you can spend quality time with people and grow in your relationships with others.
Eat together
Meal times are about more than just eating tasty food. They’re an opportunity to connect, to share with others about what you’ve been thinking and learning, to meet new people from other churches and from other walks of life, and yes, to enjoy good food in good company.
CONFERENCE SCHEDULE
This will be our first year running Y across a long weekend, and we’re looking forward to it! A long weekend means more time away, more time to relax and unwind, more time to recharge your batteries, more time to spend in God’s Word, and more time to build friendships.

We will be following the QLD Health Directives around masks, seating capacities, QR codes, and social distancing for Y Conference, in compliance with the MTCC campsite. In the case of an outbreak or a lockdown in which we need to cancel Y, you will be offered a full refund.
