“There are no crown wearers in heaven
who were not cross bearers on earth.”
What he meant was, suffering for Christ is not an optional extra for the Christian;
it’s the road to glory.
But how do we choose
the difficult road
when we live in a world
which chooses and celebrates
the easy one?

WORKSHOPS
Saturday
Workshop 1
Suffering for Christ with our Sexuality
Tim Omrod
Saturday, 12 October, 11AM
Our world tells us that complete freedom in the realm of sexual expression is a basic human right. But Christ calls us not to pursue self-fulfilment, but self-denial, and Christians are called to put the desires of the flesh (including “sexual immorality”) to death. How do we determine the boundaries of sexual expression for Christians, and how do we keep these boundaries practically?
Saturday
Workshop 2
Suffering for Christ with our Careers
Dave Pitt
Saturday, 12 October, 11AM
We are implicitly taught from childhood that our work defines us, gives us our identity, and fulfills our dreams. But Christians are called not to pursue their dreams, but to sacrifice their dreams for Christ, and to ground their identity in him. How does this affect the job/career we choose, and how do we make those choices?
Saturday
Workshop 3
Suffering for Christ on Account of the Gospel
Sam McGeown
Saturday, 12 October, 11AM
Jesus warned his disciples that they would be hated by everyone on account of his name, but that those who persevere through this persecution will be blessed and saved. How should we engage our increasingly hostile society with the gospel, and how do we know the difference between wisely remaining silent and cowardly remaining silent?
Sunday
Workshop 1
Suffering for Christ in the Ethical Realm
Mark Baddeley
Sunday, 13 October, 9AM
A big part of what it means to suffer for Christ is to stand up for what is right when we are pressured to do something that conflicts with Christ and his kingdom. But how do we know what is right and wrong in the first place? And once we know what is right and wrong, how do we wisely and sensitively make tricky ethical decisions?
Sunday
Workshop 2
Suffering for Christ as an Overseas Missionary
Mark Fairhurst
Sunday, 13 October, 9AM
Jesus calls us to make disciples of all nations, which sometimes requires us to travel and live overseas to reach others with the gospel. How do I know whether God has called me to serve him this way, and what steps should I take to adequately prepare for the sacrifices and suffering involved?
Sunday
Workshop 3
Suffering for Christ with our Relationships
Kim Gibson
Sunday, 13 October, 9AM
While we are free to marry as Christians and to have children, Christ has called some to deny their right to marry and to be single for the sake of his kingdom (Matt 19:10-12; 1 Cor 7:32-35; cf. 1 Cor 9:3, 19-23). How do we determine whether we have been called to singleness or marriage, and how do we use both our season of singleness or our season of marriage for Christ?
